Down and Out in Agadir
Morocco’s homeless serial killer. The Souss, 2017–2018.
This episode describes the killing of sleeping, homeless victims by blunt force. Listener discretion advised.
Agadir, 2018. By the middle of January, the men sleeping rough around the city have worked out that someone is killing them in their sleep. There is nowhere else to sleep. Seven bodies turn up in just over two weeks, across Agadir, Inezgane, Aït Melloul and Lqliaa, each killed with a large stone.
The trail eventually ends at a routine checkpoint, in a taxi headed toward Inezgane, with a man who had been homeless himself for more than a decade. He said nothing under questioning and has never been publicly named. There is no reported trial, no verdict and no sentence. Who was he? Where was he going that night? And what happens to a case when the record stops at the arrest?
In this bonus episode of Blood & Mint Tea: True Crime from Morocco, we follow Morocco’s homeless serial killer across the Souss, from a weekly market in Chtouka-Aït Baha to the checkpoint where it ended.
Follow Blood & Mint Tea wherever you listen so you never miss a case.
